Lourdes picked up its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves defeated Rochester (Mich.) 4-0 at Wildcat Stadium on Senior Day.
Prior to the match, Lourdes honored
Maddy Fleming (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.),
Hannah Martin (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.),
Jenna Penz (Troy, Mich./Athens H.S.), and
Maria Schmidt (Rockton, Ill./Boylan Catholic H.S.) for their contributions to the program.
"Our seniors led the charge in today's win," head coach
Jackie Phillips said afterwards. "We could not be prouder of them and their performance today."
Lourdes controlled the match throughout, outshooting the Warriors 25-7 on the afternoon, including 14-4 on goal.
Fleming put the Gray Wolves on top less than 14 minutes into the contest after taking a cross from the left side that was sent in by
Chloe Shaffer (Rossford, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) and scoring her first collegiate goal.
Shaffer set up Lourdes second tally just over five minutes later in a similar fashion, finding
Alexis Gordon (Medina, Ohio/Medina H.S.). The freshman finished for her first collegiate goal as well.
Emily Johnson (Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer H.S.) made it 3-0 Lourdes before halftime, scoring from 12 yards out after just entering the match as a substitute.
Erika Turk (Parma, Ohio/Parma H.S.) collected a turnover and fed the ball ahead for Johnson's second goal of the year.
Cassie Stitt (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman H.S.) finished the scoring for the Gray Wolves with her first collegiate goal as well. She took a pass up field from
Gianna Salatino (Eastlake, Ohio/Lake Catholic H.S.) and beat netminder Skylar Zaranek.
Zaranek made 10 saves between the posts for Rochester (1-7, 0-6 WHAC).
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) and
Lily Yoder (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) split time in goal for the Gray Wolves Wolves, each making a pair of stops.
Lourdes (4-7, 1-5) will head out on the road for its final four matches of the regular season, beginning Wednesday afternoon. The Gray Wolves head to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Warrior Athletic Field.
