Lourdes Sets Win Record as Offense Explodes in Victory over Cleary

Lourdes posted its highest offensive total since 2017 on Thursday as the Gray Wolves defeated Cleary 8-4 at Lake Trust Stadium in Howell, Mich.

With the win, the Gray Wolves set a new school mark for victories in a season with eight.

"Every WHAC game is a challenge, and we knew Cleary is a better team than the results that they have had," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "It took us awhile to find our feet, but we scored some good goals and had some excellent attacking moments to build from."

Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.) tallied a hat trick and added a pair of assists in the win for the Gray Wolves.  After Cleary scored just eight seconds into the match, Amoo tied the contest at one before Kevin Gonzalez (Pasadena, Texas/South Houston H.S.) put the Gray Wolves up with a goal in the 26th minutes.

Leading 2-1 at the break, Amoo scored less than five minutes out of intermission.  The Cougars pulled within 3-2 before Amoo tallied his third of the match at the 59:52 mark.  Hussein Sbeiti (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn H.S.) found the back of the net just 35 seconds later and Cameron Poslaiko (Woodhaven, Mich./Carlson H.S) converted a penalty kick to make it 6-2 Lourdes.

Jose Silveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Barao de Maua) and Sebastian Bogarin (Asuncion, Paraguay/Sergrado Corazon de Jesus) each added a late goal as well.

Lesman Morazan scored three times for Cleary (0-7-2, 0-6-2 WHAC) in the loss.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau [La.] H.S.) and Jorge Mendoza (Houston, Texas/Houston Heights H.S.) made two saves each for the Gray Wolves.

"We'll need every bit of confidence and execution we have going into Aquinas on short rest Saturday," Johnson added.  "That should be a great test and one we are looking forward to."

Lourdes (8-5-1, 5-2-1) will return to action on Saturday evening, heading to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Aquinas.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Aquinas Athletic Field.
