Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) hit her first home run of the season on Wednesday afternoon, but Bethel (Ind.) came away with a doubleheader sweep of Lourdes 10-2 and 14-1 at Gardner Field in Mishawaka, Ind.
Gauthier led off the second in game one with her round-tripper to left to put the Gray Wolves in front. Lourdes added another run in the inning as
Maddy Bartos (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) singled home
Hailey Cramer (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.).
Bethel (10-21) would rally though, scoring three times in both the third and fourth innings before adding two more in the fifth and sixth to end the game. Hannah Frady went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Pilots while also earning the win in the circle, scattering five Lourdes hits.
Cramer was the only Gray Wolf with a multi-hit effort in the opener.
In game two, Lourdes scored an unearned run in the top of the third to take the lead as Gauthier reached on an error, allowing
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) to score.
The Pilots would score 14 times in the third inning though, taking advantage of five Lourdes errors while tallying nine hits on the way to the win.
Wallace had two of the Gray Wolves' five hits against Chloe DeJong while Quinn Slattman went 3-for-3 for the Pilots.
Lourdes (2-17) will return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Rochester Hills, Mich. to face Rochester (Mich.). First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. at Jaycee Field.
