Lourdes opened Gray Wolf Field for the first time on Friday afternoon, but Mount Vernon Nazarene spoiled the celebration with 14-1 and 11-2 victories over the Gray Wolves.
"It was great to compete against another team today," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards. "We need to tighten our defense and have a better approach at the plate tomorrow."
The Gray Wolves managed just one hit in the opener, a RBI single by
Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) in the opening inning that scored
Hailey Cramer (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.), who drew a two-out walk.
The Cougars broke the game open with six in the second inning and added four more in the fourth, pounding out 17 hits in the opener.
In game two, Mount Vernon Nazarene (2-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings before the Gray Wolves crossed the plate in the fourth. Gauthier singled home Cramer, who had doubled and had two hits in the game.
Cramer added a RBI of her own in the fifth, plating
Kenzie Cooke (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes H.S.).
Lourdes (0-2) will host Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon, with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m. at Gray Wolf Field.
