Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lourdes Wins Third Straight, Downs Michigan-Dearborn 13-11

Lourdes picked up its third straight victory on Monday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn 13-11 at Wildcat Stadium.

The Gray Wolves had eight different goal scorers in the game, including five players with two goals each.  Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) led Lourdes with seven points, handing out five assists in addition to scoring twice.

"I am proud of the guys' effort tonight and how they worked for each other," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "They battled and fought for every ground ball and worked for 60 minutes."

The Wolverines built an early 5-2 lead late in the opening quarter before Gilhooly scored in the closing seconds of the quarter to pull Lourdes within two.  The Gray Wolves defense stiffened in the second, shutting out Michigan-Dearborn while forging in front.  Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.) started the scoring in the period before Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) and Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) scored 19 seconds apart to put Lourdes in front 6-5.  Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) added another goal less than a minute later, building a 7-5 advantage at the 7:37 mark.  Neither team would score again in the half.

Causley started the scoring in the third before the Wolverines tallied three straight goals to pull even at eight.  Zach Stahura (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater H.S.) answered nine seconds after Michigan-Dearborn tied the game, finding the back of the cage for the first time this year, and the Gray Wolves would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Johnson and Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) continued the momentum to end the quarter before Gilhooly scored against 43 seconds into the fourth.

Despite Michigan-Dearborn (0-4, 0-4 WHAC) scoring three of the final four goals, Lourdes was able to hold on for the win.

Lourdes held a 49-34 shot advantage with Jared Duncan (Grandville, Mich./Grandville H.S.) making 11 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.  Jon Chaffee made 12 stops for the Wolverines.

The Gray Wolves also held a 46-31 edge in ground balls and won 23-of-28 faceoffs.  Stahura won 22 of the 25 draws he took and had 17 ground balls, one shy of the school's single game record.

Lourdes (4-3, 3-2) is scheduled to conclude the regular season on Saturday evening, hosting Taylor.  The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the game.
