On a night in which ninth-ranked Lourdes honored nine seniors, the Gray Wolves closed the regular season with its highest scoring output of the season, downing Taylor 19-10 at Wildcat Stadium.
"The offense came to play today and together they keep raising the ceiling," head coach
Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards. "The faceoff team was great today and worked as a solid unit. The team has shown all the facets to compete at a high level and are gelling at the perfect time as the regular season concludes."
Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) scored four times while
Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.),
Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.), and
Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) added three goals each for the Gray Wolves.
After allowing the opening goal of the game, Lourdes scored the next 11 tallies before Taylor (5-9, 0-6 WHAC) found the back of the cage with just 42 seconds left before halftime as the Gray Wolves took an 11-2 lead into the intermission.
Lourdes scored the first two goals of the third before the Trojans tallied six of the next seven goals to pull within 14-8. The Gray Wolves responded with four straight goals on the way to the victory.
The Gray Wolves outshot Taylor 54-24 for the game and held a 44-24 advantage in ground balls. Lourdes also won 26 of the 32 faceoffs.
Zach Stahura (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater H.S.) went 25-of-30 at the X and had12 ground balls while
Nate Allan (Peterborough, Ont./Saint Peters Catholic H.S.) added eight ground balls.
Lourdes (6-4, 3-3) will now await the conclusion of regular season play throughout the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference before entering into the postseason tournament which begins April 21. The official pairings will be released by the league office in the coming days.
