Lourdes registered its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves took both ends of a twinbill from Indiana Tech 7-2 and 1-0 at Warrior Park in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The opener was scoreless until the fourth when Lourdes broke through for four runs while sending 10 batters to the plate.
Hailey Cramer (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) doubled home
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) with the game's first run and
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.) added a RBI single. After a two-out error by the Warriors,
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) and
Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) both delivered run-scoring singles.
Indiana Tech responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth before the Lourdes offense struck again in the sixth.
Ella Leonard (Lorain, Ohio/Midview H.S.) produced a run-scoring single with two outs to push the lead to 5-2. Richardson plated two more in the seventh with her second hit of the game, giving the Gray Wolves all the insurance runs they would need.
Milena Applegate (Jerome, Mich./Lumen Christi H.S.) went four innings for her first win (1-7) of the year in the circle, allowing just one earned run and three hits while striking out two.
Ashley Roth (LaRue, Ohio/Elgin H.S.) tossed the final three frames without allowing a hit to pick up the save.
Game two was a pitcher's dual with the two sides matching zeros through five innings. In the sixth, Palma tripled with one out and scored one batter later on a Cramer groundout for what proved to be the only run of the game.
Lourdes had just four hits in the game, including two by Palma, as Ashley Alvey went the distance in the circle but suffered the loss (5-8) for Indiana Tech (15-25, 5-13 WHAC).
Ashley Riley (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor H.S.) combined on a one-hitter for the Gray Wolves. Riley went five innings, striking out five while allowing just a two-out single in the fourth to earn the win (1-2). Roth picked up her second save of the day, and the season, with two more innings of scoreless relief.
Lourdes (6-27, 3-11) will close out the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Madonna. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. at Gray Wolf Field.
