Lourdes Notches 8-5 Victory at Siena Heights

After two previous postponements, Lourdes finally took the field against Siena Heights on Monday evening, coming away with an 8-5 victory over the Saints at O'Laughlin Stadium in Adrian, Mich.

"Tonight's game was a great team win," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "The entire team fought hard for every ground ball and started to do the little things well.  The guys who weren't playing were doing a great job of being loud and lifting everyone's spirits.  We are excited above moving forward in the season."

Lourdes never trailed in the contest, as Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) scored the first two goals of the game and Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) added another as the Gray Wolves built a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter.

The Saints responded with the first two goals of the second period before Pezzot found the back of the cage again.  Siena Heights added a goal with just 14 seconds to play before intermission to pull within one, 4-3, at the break.

Neither side scored for the first 13 minutes of the second half before Siena Heights (2-2, 1-2 WHAC) tied the game with 1:35 to play in the third, but Kyle Schiel's (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) goal in the closing seconds of the quarter gave the Gray Wolves the lead again heading into the final 15 minutes.

Nate Allan (Peterborough, Ont./Saint Peters Catholic H.S.) and Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) added to the lead to open the fourth quarter before the Saints scored one final goal with 4:46 to play.  Causley added an insurance tally with 1:06 to play as the Gray Wolves moved back to .500 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

Lourdes finished the game with a 43-28 shot advantage, with Tyler Queen (Odenton, Md./Arundel H.S.) making 11 saves in the cage for the Gray Wolves.  The Gray Wolves also held a 38-31 ground ball advantage in the game.  Queen had eight ground balls while Allan added six more.

Lourdes (4-3, 2-2) returns to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Aquinas.  The opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Aquinas Athletic Field.
