Lourdes battled back from a 7-6 defeat in eight innings in the opening game to take game two of Wednesday's doubleheader 2-1 at Gray Wolf Field for the Gray Wolves' first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season.
After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning of game one, the Gray Wolves fought back to take a 5-3 lead. Lourdes plated four runs in the fourth, the first two coming on a double by
Ashley Riffle (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon H.S.). An error allowed Lourdes to tie the game before taking the lead on
Alexis Nowowiecki's (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) RBI ground out.
In the fifth, Lourdes added to the lead as
Hailey Cramer (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) led off the inning with her first home run of the season.
The Saints plated three more runs in the top of the sixth to regain the advantage before Lourdes immediately tied it in the bottom of the frame.
Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) singled home
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.), who reached on an error to open the frame.
The game stayed tied into extra innings when Siena Heights got a single from Sam Hill, one of three RBI in the game for her, that proved to be the game-winner.
Cramer had three hits and Riffle added two more for Lourdes as part of a nine-hit attack in the opener.
In game two, Siena Heights (11-7, 2-2 WHAC) took the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly, the only run of the game off
Ashley Roth (LaRue, Ohio/Elgin H.S.). Roth went the distance in the circle to get the win (4-5), striking out four and walking just one while scattering nine hits.
Lourdes took the lead in the fourth as Cramer singled and Gauthier doubled to lead off the inning. Riffle delivered a two-run single up the middle that proved to be the only runs the Gray Wolves would need in the victory.
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) went 2-for-3 in game two as part of Lourdes' seven hits in the game.
Lourdes (4-19, 1-3) remains at home on Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Cornerstone. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for noon at Gray Wolf Field.
