Lourdes Offense Explodes in 5-0 Shutout at Indiana East

Lourdes continued its offensive prowess early in the season on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves erupted for four second half goals on the way to a 5-0 victory over Indiana University East at Centerville High School in Centerville, Ind.

"It was nice to score some goals tonight," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "Today was an example of how our strong defensive effort has the ability to create our offense."

Hussein Sbeiti (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard just under 20 minutes into the match, notching what proved to be his second match-winning goal in as many contests this season.  All three of Sbeiti's career tallies have been match-winners.

The Gray Wolves took the 1-0 lead over the Red Wolves into intermission, holding a 6-3 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes.

Lourdes kicked the offense into overdrive in the second half, outshooting Indiana East 18-2 in the final stanza to end the match with a 24-5 shot advantage.

Leon Eisert (Leipzig, Germany/Kathe-Kollwitz Gymnasium) doubled the Lourdes lead less than five minutes into the second half, scoring his team-leading third goal of the year while Andris Klempert (Hamburg, Germany/Stadtteilschule Walddorfer) handed out the assist, becoming the first Gray Wolf this season with two helpers.

Just three minutes later, Robert Pereznegron (Channelview, Texas/Channelview H.S.) found the back of the net for the first time this year, with Eisert drawing the assist.

Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.), who had a chance to score on a penalty kick that sailed high midway through the second half, atoned for the miss with his first goal of the year with 15:16 to play, making it 4-0 Lourdes.  The goal was the 11th of his career, moving him into third place along on the Gray Wolves' career goal scoring list.

Pereznegron joined Eisert with a three-point match in the final minutes, dishing out an assist to Ben Noud (Novi, Mich./Novi H.S.) with exactly three minutes to play for the match's final margin.  Noud's goal was the first of his career at Lourdes.

In goal, Igor Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Barao de Maua) needed to make just two saves to earn his first career shutout with the Gray Wolves.  Alex Visscher made three first half saves for Indiana East (0-1-1) while Peter Lamprou made four stops over the final 45 minutes.

Lourdes (2-0) will have a week off before returning to action next Wednesday, Sept. 1, as the Gray Wolves travel to Mishawaka, Ind. to battle Bethel (Ind.).  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Morey Field.
