Farouk Amoo (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood H.S.) notched his second career hat trick, helping to lead Lourdes to a 5-0 shutout over Point Park on Saturday afternoon in the Gray Wolves' home opener at Wildcat Stadium.
"It was nice to score some goals today," head coach
Matt Johnson said afterwards. "Farouk has been playing well but the balls just weren't finding the back of the net for him prior to today, so hopefully this gives him some confidence. I was happy with how we managed the game once we got the lead."
Amoo put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard just 10:34 into the match.
Kevin Gonzalez (Pasadena, Texas/South Holland H.S.) sent a feed up the middle to Amoo, who beat goalkeeper Andrew Russell for the first tally.
Gonzalez added a goal of his own in the 23
rd minute, his first of the year and third of his career, to double the advantage.
Amoo added two more goals before halftime to give Lourdes a 4-0 lead at the break.
Jose Silveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Barao de Maua) drew his first assist of the day on the goal at the 29:46 mark. Amoo's final tally came just over three minutes later following a give-and-go on the right side between
Hussein Sbeiti (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn H.S.) and Silveira, before it was crossed to Amoo in the box.
With 27:18 to play in the match,
Moustapha Merhi (Beirut, Lebanon/Star International Academy) sent a long ball down the left side to
Robert Pereznegron (Channelview, Texas/Channelview H.S.), who sent the ball across to
Diego Pereira (Asuncion, Paraguay/Cristo Rey) for his third goal of the year.
The Gray Wolves'
Igor Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Pentagono) made two stops in goal for his second shutout of the season. Russell made two stops for Point Park (2-3) in net.
Lourdes finished the match with a 15-7 shot advantage, including a 9-2 edge on goal. Lourdes also had four of the five corner kicks in the match.
