Lourdes improved to 2-0 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for the first time in program history on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated Indiana Tech 1-0 at Wildcat Stadium.
"The girls earned an important three points tonight," head coach
Jackie Phillips said afterwards. "They came together as one and made the most of their opportunities."
Chloe Shaffer (Rossford, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) scored her second consecutive match-winner with 15:41 to play before halftime.
Annah Zacerkowny (Windsor, Ont./Sandwich H.S.) sent a ball down the left sideline which Shaffer collected and fired into the goal far post from approximately 35 yards out.
The goal would be the lone tally of the evening as
Emmy Rodger (Romeo, Mich./Romeo H.S.) made five saves in goal to earn her second career clean sheet.
Indiana Tech (5-4, 1-1 WHAC) held a 6-5 shot advantage at intermission but the final total ended even 13-13. The Gray Wolves had eight corner kick opportunities in the match while surrendering just four.
Karminna Gaytan made seven saves between the posts for the Warriors.
Lourdes (5-1-3, 2-0) remains at home on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Michigan-Dearborn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
