Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quick Start Allows Lourdes to Race Past Northwestern Ohio

Lourdes made eight of its first 11 three-point field goal attempts on Wednesday evening and ran past the University of Northwestern Ohio 65-50 inside of Racers Gymnasium to snap a five-game losing skid.

"It was nice for us to come out focused and ready to dominate tonight," head coach Tandy Bradford said following the win.  "They handled the adversity of being on the road for the first time in a while and stayed focused on working as a team.  Even though the shooting went cold in the second half, the defense stayed strong.

The Gray Wolves were 6-of-8 from long range in the opening quarter and 62.5% from the floor overall while pouring in 28 points over the 10 minutes.  Lourdes scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game and never trailed in the contest.  The Racers were within three, 17-14, with under three minutes to play in the first period when Lourdes scored final 11 points of the quarter, including a pair of triples from Cydne Campbell (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne H.S.).

Lourdes scored the first five points of the second quarter to extend its lead to 17 and would increase its lead to as many as 21 before taking a 48-29 lead into the locker room.

The scoring slowed way down following halftime, as the two schools combined for just 38 points over the final 20 minutes.  Lourdes shot just 30% from the floor in the second half, but the defense stayed strong, and never let Northwestern Ohio get any closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 16 points, making four three-pointers, while Shallyn Miley (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan H.S.) chipped in 12 points of 6-of-12 shooting.  Mercedes Wagner (Sherwood, Ohio/Fairview H.S.) contributed 10 points.

Lourdes finished the game shooting 45.1% from the field, including 9-of-23 (39.1%) from long range, but committed just 15 turnovers.  Defensively, the Gray Wolves registered 15 steals and forced 24 turnovers as the Racers shot 43.5% overall.

Erin Scott led Northwestern Ohio (3-12, 1-9 WHAC) with 16 points as the only Racer to finish in double figures.

Lourdes (8-15, 2-12) returns home for three straight games beginning on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Madonna.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
