Lourdes battled back from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a lead in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, but Siena Heights rallied in the final minutes to defeat the Gray Wolves 81-75 inside the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
Â
The Gray Wolves trailed 46-35 at the break before mounting a big third quarter. A
Nadeen Jemaa (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) three-pointer midway through the stanza tied the game at 55 before the Saints scored the next four points to regain the lead. A 7-0 Lourdes run put the visitors in front by three with under two minutes to play in the third and the Gray Wolves took a 64-61 lead to the final 10 minutes after scoring 29 points in the period.
Â
Another Jemaa triple with nine minutes to play put Lourdes up six early in the quarter and a
Maddie Norton (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) jumper with just under five minutes to play increased the lead to eight, 73-65. Siena Heights scored the next 11 points in three minutes to regain the lead for good, closing the contest on a 16-2 spurt.
Â
"It was a team inspired not just to play, but to win coming back into the second half," head coach
Tandy Bradford said afterwards. "We had some untimely moments and put the top team in our league at the free throw line too much. We continue to see the growth in this team and I am excited to get back on the court Saturday."
Â
The opening quarter had seven lead changes with Siena Heights leading by one, 22-21, after 10 minutes. The Saints opened the second period with a 16-7 run to push the lead to 10 at the midway point of the quarter and built a 13-point advantage before taking the 11-point lead into the locker room.
Â
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 19 points and eight rebounds while
Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) added 15 points and seven boards.Â
