Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 career points on Saturday afternoon but Lourdes was unable to come away with a victory, falling 80-63 to Rio Grande inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

Rio Grande never trailed in the contest, taking an early 16-8 lead less than six minutes into the contest after making four three-point field goals. The Red Storm lead grew to 11 midway through the half before Lourdes was able to battle back to within seven, 29-22, at the three-minute mark. Rio Grande then took a 36-27 lead into the locker room.

A 10-2 run by the Red Storm early in the second pushed the visitor's advantage to 17, 48-31, before Lourdes answered with eight consecutive points of its own, including a free throw by Anderson with 12:37 to play to give him his 1,000
th point. The Gray Wolves were able to get the deficit down to eight, 53-45, with just under nine minutes to play but could not get any closer the rest of the way. Rio Grande used one final 7-0 spurt to push the lead to 18 with under three minutes remaining on the way to its ninth consecutive victory.

"We played against a tough team today," Hopson added. They worked harder and tougher than we did. We played hard, but not tough enough. They also had some shooters that made shots."

Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) led Lourdes with 20 points while Anderson added 19 more to give him 1,005 points for his career.

The Gray Wolves forced 17 Rio Grande turnovers, but the Red Storm shot 51.8% from the floor, including 11-of-23 (47.8%) from three-point range and outrebounded Lourdes 40-26.

Shiloah Blevins led five Rio Grande (10-3) players in double figures with 22 points while Mike Cody added 19 more off the bench.

Lourdes (9-5) remains home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Lambton. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
