No. 10 Lourdes Earns Road Win at Aquinas

Lourdes picked up its second victory in Grand Rapids, Mich. in less than 18 hours on Saturday morning as the Gray Wolves defeated Aquinas 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 29-27 inside of the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.

"We were able to serve and pass at a high level for most of the match which allowed us to run our offense more efficiently," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "This is a good road win to pick up."

Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) put down 23 kills and hit .452 with four service aces while adding 15 digs defensively for the Gray Wolves.  Eduardo Ayala (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) added 13 kills and Sawyer Schafer (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) handed out 39 assists for an offense that hit .305 on the night.

Defensively, Elijah Fleming (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook H.S.) registered six blocks and Tomas Olak (Rowville, Australia/Mazenod College) added four while picking up seven digs.

Lourdes put down 17 kills in the opening set while using a 11-2 run early to take the lead 12-7.  The Saints battled back to pull even at 22 before the Gray Wolves scored the next two points to pull in front for good.  In set two, a 7-1 run to build a 16-8 advantage.  Lourdes hit .538 in set two.

Aquinas hit .526 in the third to extend the match while set four had 11 ties in it.  Lourdes fought three set points from the Saints before back-to-back kills by Lam and Mitch Hoffman (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Michigan Aviation Academy) closed out the match.

Julian Armendano led Aquinas (8-3, 4-3 WHAC) with 15 kills while Joshua Boothroyd added 14 more while swinging at a .370 clip.
