Lourdes wrapped up the 2021-2022 season on Saturday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich., suffering a 77-64 defeat against Cornerstone inside of Mol Arena.
"I am proud of the fight this team showed to never give up this season," head coach
Tandy Bradford said afterwards. "It showed in how we were able to come back and win the fourth and outrebound Cornerstone. We will continue to grow in the offseason and build to be a program that competes for four quarters every game."
Mercedes Wagner (Sherwood, Ohio/Fairview H.S.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds while
Winter Richburg (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) added 10 points off the bench to pace the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes fell behind 19-11 just six minutes into the game before closing to within one late in the stanza following a 9-1 run in just over two minutes. The Golden Eagles responded with the next seven points. The Gray Wolves were able to battle back within four, 31-27, early in the second period before Cornerstone went on another run, this time a 12-3 spurt, to push the lead to 13, which also became the halftime margin with the hosts in front 48-35.
The Gray Wolves trailed by 19, 71-52, early in the fourth before a 9-0 run pulled them within 10 with five minutes to play. Lourdes was unable to cut the deficit to single digits down the stretch though.
Lourdes (10-20, 3-17 WHAC) shot 37.5% from the floor but committed 29 turnovers on the afternoon which led to 29 Golden Eagle points. The Gray Wolves did outrebound Cornerstone 49-37, including 15-7 on the offensive end, with
Logan Ingram (Mount Pleasant, Mich./Mount Pleasant H.S.) grabbing 11 rebounds.
Ellen Kresge led Cornerstone (7-21, 5-15) with 14 points as four Golden Eagles finished the game in double figures. Maddison Fulks added 12 off the bench while Kennedy Helderop had 11 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and six steals.
