Tennessee Wesleyan scored nine unanswered goals to open the second half on the way to a 12-6 victory over Lourdes on Friday afternoon at the TWU Athletic Complex in Athens, Tenn., handing the Gray Wolves their first loss of the season.
Lourdes scored first as
Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) scored just over two minutes into the contest. After the Bulldogs evened the game,
Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front 2-1 after 15 minutes.
Tennessee Wesleyan tied the game at two midway through the second quarter before
Kyle Schiel (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) found the back of the cage with just 13 seconds remaining before halftime to put Lourdes in front 3-2 at the break.
The Bulldogs scored the only four goals of the third quarter and added the first five of the fourth to build an 11-3 advantage before the Gray Wolves scored three times in the final 5:15. Schiel had two more goals while
Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) added the final tally.
Gavin Greco and Patrick Thomas finished with three goals each for Tennessee Wesleyan (6-1).
George Hoexum (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern H.S.) made eight saves in goal for the Gray Wolves. Pezzot won 6-of-7 faceoffs and had a team-high eight ground balls while
Sanaan Cuffy (Broward County, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons H.S.) had six more.
Lourdes (2-1) will be idle until March 23 when the Gray Wolves travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio to face Mount Vernon Nazarene. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium.
