Lourdes had to wait an extra 30 minutes for thunderstorms to pass on Wednesday evening before the Gray Wolves took the field in their final non-conference game of the season, but the wait was worth it as Lourdes defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 14-7 at the Cougar Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Â
Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) scored four times while
Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) found the back of the cage three times for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes never trailed in the contest.
Â
Mike Stibal (Commerce Township, Mich./Lakeland H.S.) started the scoring for Lourdes just 1:21 into the game before
Chad Causley, who had a six-point night with two goals and four assists, made it 2-0 Gray Wolves. Mount Vernon Nazarene (6-3) tied the game at two before Lourdes scored the next four goals.
Â
Causley made it 3-2 Lourdes just before the end of the opening quarter before Pezzot started the second with back-to-back tallies. The Gray Wolves would take a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Â
Louthan's second goal of the game, followed by markers from
Kyle Schiel (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) and
Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) increased the Gray Wolf lead to six midway through the third quarter. Lourdes would go on another 4-0 run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.Â
Â
Lourdes held a 44-28 advantage in shot attempts on the evening, with
George Hoexum (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern H.S.) making eight saves for the Gray Wolves. Joshua Hageman made nine stops for the Cougars in the cage.
Â
Ezequel Ceant (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach H.S.) won 13-of-21 faceoffs on the night and led the team with eight ground balls.
Â
Lourdes (3-1) will open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.). The opening faceoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
