Lourdes opened its 2022 home schedule on a warm Wednesday afternoon but Thomas More spoiled the party, defeating the Gray Wolves 11-6 and 20-9 at Gray Wolf Field.
 
After Thomas More scored twice in the top of the first of game one, the Gray Wolf bats came alive.  Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) singled home a run in the bottom of the frame to put Lourdes on the scoreboard.  The Gray Wolves took the lead in the second as Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) doubled home two runs and Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) plated another run on a fielder's choice.
 
The Lourdes lead grew to 6-1 in the third as Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) doubled home a pair of runs.  The Gray Wolf bats went quiet after the third, tallying just two hits the rest of the way.
 
The Saints pulled within one with three runs in the fifth before sending 10 batters to the plate in the sixth, scoring six times, to take the lead for good.
 
Albert had three hits in the opener while Richardson added two more as part of a 10-hit attack for the Gray Wolves.
 
Albert continued her hot bat in game two with a pair of doubles and two walks.  She drove home a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.
 
Lourdes fell behind 4-1 heading to the bottom of the second before plating five runs.  Ella Leonard (Lorain, Ohio/Midview H.S.) had a two-run single while Sophia Dauterman (Toledo, Ohio/Whiteford H.S.) and Albert each had RBI hits as Lourdes took a 6-4 advantage after two.
 
Thomas More (5-12) took advantage of eight Lourdes errors in the nightcap though, scoring 12 unearned runs.  The Saints had 14 batters come to the plate in a nine-run third before adding three more runs in the fourth.  After the visitors added four more in the fifth, the Gray Wolves bats returns in the bottom of the inning.
 
Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) homered to lead off the fifth while Palma added a sacrifice fly in the frame.  Maddy Donaldson (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) also had a RBI single in the fifth, but the Gray Wolves rally would come up short.
 
Lourdes had 13 hits in game two.
 
Lourdes (3-6) returns home on Sunday morning to host Calumet.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 10 a.m.
