Tenth-ranked Lourdes battled from behind to force a fifth set on Wednesday evening, but fourth-ranked Indiana Tech prevailed 25-23, 25-27, 25-16, 22-25, 15-12 inside the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.

"We didn't play our best match tonight when we needed to," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We will have to get back to work to make ourselves better for our last regular season match this Saturday."

The opening set had 15 ties and six lead changes before the hosts scored the final two points of the stanza to take the early lead in the match. The Gray Wolves battled back from a 16-12 deficit in the second to pull even at 18. Lourdes fought of a set point before scoring the final three points to even the match at one.

Indiana Tech committed just one attack error in the third set and hit .481 in leading from start to finish in the third. The Warriors jumped in front 12-4 to pull within one set of the win. The Gray Wolves battled back in the fourth though. Trailing 7-3, Lourdes scored the next six points to take the lead for good on the way to forcing a decisive fifth set.

Lourdes took the early lead in the fifth set 8-6 and led again 10-9 before the Warriors scored the next three points to take the lead for good. Â The two sides then traded points until the end when Indiana Tech scored the final two to secure the match.

Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) led Lourdes with 23 kills and 15 digs while
Eduardo Ayala (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) added 17 kills and 15 digs.Â
Sawyer Schafer (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) handed out 53 assists for an offense that hit .179 on the night.

Defensively,
Guga Heidrich (Braco do Norte, Brazil/Colegio Unificado) had a team-high 19 digs while Schafer added 10 more to complete his double-double.

Mason Milan led Indiana Tech (25-1, 12-1 WHAC) with 15 kills and 10 digs while Joey Hermes had 22 digs.

Lourdes (15-5, 10-3) will close out the regular season on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves host Aquinas inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
