Bethel Rallies in Second Half to Defeat Lourdes Wednesday

Lourdes took a one-goal lead into halftime on Wednesday afternoon, but a Bethel (Ind.) rallied with a big second half to defeat the Gray Wolves 17-7 at Wildcat Stadium.

"This was a tough loss today," head coach Sierra Wagoner said afterwards.  "The first half was a great battle but unfortunately the game got away from us in the second half.  We will continue to grow and learn from these kinds of games and be better prepared for the next one."

After Bethel scored the first two goals of the game, Sarah Przyojski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard with a goal at the 8:23 mark of the opening quarter.  The Pilots answered with another tally before Amelia McCourt (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills H.S.) and Anastasia Weekley (Elyria, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) both scored before the end of the period to tie the game at three.

McCourt put Lourdes on top just 46 seconds into the second quarter and Jordin Rawski (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added to the lead midway through the stanza before Bethel cut the Gray Wolf advantage to 5-4 just 34 seconds before the break.

McCourt's third goal of the game just 32 seconds into the third put the Gray Wolves back in front by two before Bethel scored the next nine goals over a 14-minute span between the third and fourth quarters.  Rawski snapped the Pilots' string with a tally at the 12:06 mark but Bethel would tally the final four goals of the game.

Przyojski and Kayla Dillinger (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney H.S.) each had two assists for the Gray Wolves.

Bethel outshot Lourdes 29-24 for the afternoon with Maddie Wadesisi (Cleveland, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) making six stops in goal for the Gray Wolves while Samantha Swope had 11 saves for Bethel.

Lourdes had a 26-11 edge in ground balls, but the Pilots won 16 of the 24 draw controls.  McCourt had four draw controls and four caused turnovers for the Gray Wolves.

Jenna Crockett scored six times and added two assists to lead Bethel (3-3, 1-1 WHAC) while Becca Broadwich had nine draw controls.

Lourdes (1-2, 1-1) takes to the road on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Adrian, Mich. to face ninth-ranked Siena Heights.  The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at O'Laughlin Stadium.
