Lourdes got strong pitching performances from
Caleb Loboschefski (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) and
Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) on Tuesday afternoon and swept a doubleheader from Rochester (Mich.) 3-1 and 10-0 at Mercy Field.
"It was great to get back out and play today," head coach
Josh Bradford said afterwards. "We got two great starts today from Caleb and Joey. Our bats came alive in game two and we got some big clutch hits to extend innings."
Loboschefski dueled the Warriors' Nick Bastien in the opener, with both pitchers going the distance. Loboschefski struck out nine and walked just one while allowing three hits to get the win (3-1). Bastian fanned seven and scattered six hits in the loss (0-2).
Lourdes scored first as Oehlers singled to lead off the second and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.), who went 2-for-3 in the game, singled to center to score the first run of the game.
Rochester (3-13, 0-4 WHAC) tied the game in the fifth before the Gray Wolves plated what proved to be the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) and Jagodzinski had back-to-back RBI doubles to put Lourdes in front for good.
In game two, Oehlers tossed seven innings of shutout baseball, striking out seven while yielding just two hits and a walk before
Austin Ford (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.) pitched a one-two-three eighth.
The Gray Wolves took the lead in the third as
Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) registered a two-run double before
Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) hit a two-run home run, his team-leading fourth of the season.
Jackson hit a solo blast in the sixth to make it 5-0 Gray Wolves before Lourdes closed the game with a five-run eighth.
Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima H.S.)
Gabe Scott (Curtis, Ohio/Genoa H.S.), and Haugh had three straight RBI singles before Ammons reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice to make it 9-0. Jackson's run-scoring hit with the bases loaded then ended the game.
Scott and Haugh each had three hits in game two as Lourdes pounded out 16 for the contest.
Lourdes (18-6, 3-1) will begin four-game road trip on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Madonna. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Illitch Ballpark in Livonia, Mich.
