Lourdes Edged in Home Opener by Siena Heights

Siena Heights scored the game-winning goal with 1:44 to play on Wednesday evening, as the Saints spoiled the home opener for Lourdes with a 13-12 victory at Wildcat Stadium.
 
The Saints took advantage of 10 Gray Wolf penalties, scoring five times with the man advantage, four of which came in the opening half.
 
The visitors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game before the Gray Wolves battled back.  Kyle Schiel (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) put Lourdes on the board with 3:34 to play in the opening quarter before Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) and Sanaan Cuffy (Broward County, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons H.S.) scored back-to-back goals 13 seconds apart.
 
The Saints would score with 20 seconds to play in the opening quarter and then again in the opening minute of the second to build a 6-3 advantage.  Lourdes would pull even with Siena Heights, 7-7, midway through the second quarter before both teams scored in the final minute of the half to go into intermission deadlocked at eight.
 
After Siena Heights (3-3, 2-0 WHAC) scored the first goal of the third, Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) tallied back-to-back goals to put Lourdes in front for the first time, 10-9.  The Saints would score three straight goals spanning the quarter break, building a 12-10 advantage.
 
With under eight minutes remaining, Liam Wisniewski (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) found the back of the cage to cut the deficit to one before Nick Johnson's (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) second goal of the night tied the game at 12 with 4:23 to play.
 
Eric Csizmadia tallied the game-winner for the Saints with 1:44 to play as the Saints then won the ensuing faceoff and were able to run out the clock.
 
Pezzot had three goals and an assist while Causley also had a four-point game with two goals and two helpers.  Siena Heights outshot Lourdes 46-40 on the evening.  George Hoexum (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern H.S.) made 15 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Vinnie Jean had 11 stops for the Saints.
 
Pezzot also won 13 of the 21 faceoffs he took while Cuffy had a team-high six ground balls.
 
Lourdes (4-2, 1-1) remains home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain second-ranked Indiana Tech.  The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
