Fifth-ranked Aquinas scored the first nine goals of the second half to break open a one-goal game and spoiled Senior Night for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves fell to the Saints 16-7 on Saturday evening at Wildcat Stadium.
The Gray Wolves kept the game close throughout the first half.
Kyle Schiel (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard first and
Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) tied the game at two midway through the opening quarter.
Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich.//L'Anse Creuse H.S.) and
Sanaan Cuffy (Broward County, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons H.S.) both added goals late in the first as Lourdes trailed 5-4 after 15 minutes.
Aquinas (8-3, 6-1 WHAC) forged in front 7-4 in the second quarter before back-to-back tallies by
Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) and
Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) pulled the Gray Wolves to within one at halftime.
Aquinas scored three times in the third within a 1:26 span to build a four-goal lead before adding six more to open the final stanza. Cuffy tallied his second goal of the night with just 1:12 to play to put Lourdes on the scoreboard in the second half.
The Saints finished the game with a 55-35 shot advantage, as
George Hoexum (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern H.S.) saves in goal for Lourdes.
Ezequel Ceant (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach H.S.) won 12-of-21 faceoffs he took and finished with a team-high six ground balls.
Mitch Haggart led Aquinas with six goals and an assist while Clayton Boertigter made 10 saves in the cage.
Lourdes (7-4, 4-3) takes to the road on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Southfield, Mich. to face Lawrence Tech. The opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. at Blue Devils Stadium.
