Lourdes used a 7-1 run over the middle two quarters to propel the Gray Wolves to a 10-5 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn on a cold Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wolverines scored the game's first goal just 3:10 into the context before the Lourdes defense stymied Michigan-Dearborn, keeping them off the scoreboard again until late in the third quarter.
The Gray Wolves would score the next seven goals.
Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) tied the game midway through the opening period before
Jake Busta (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad H.S.) put Lourdes in front for good at the 4:30 mark.
Lourdes carried the 2-1 lead into the second when
Chad Causley (Clinton Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse H.S.) would scored twice. Louthan also found the back of the cage as did
Kyle Schiel (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) as the Gray Wolves built a 6-1 lead at intermission. Schiel would also finish the game with three assists.
Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) made it a 7-1 lead before the Wolverines scored with the man advantage to end the Lourdes run.
Louthan and
Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) would both score before the end of the third while Causley made it a 10-2 edge just 56 seconds into the fourth for the Gray Wolves' final goal of the day.
Michigan-Dearborn (4-8, 2-3 WHAC) would score the final three goals of the contest but could not get closer than five.
Lourdes finished the game with a 40-30 shot advantage with
George Hoexum (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern H.S.) making 11 stops between the posts for the Gray Wolves.
The Gray Wolves won 14-of-18 faceoffs on the day, including 13-of-17 by
Ezequel Ceant (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach H.S.), who also had a team-high seven ground balls. Lourdes finished with a 39-21 edge in that category as well.
Lourdes (6-3, 3-2) continues its homestand on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Cleary. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
