Madonna Tops Lourdes Wednesday Night

Laura Rincon (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Senora de la Merced) scored her second goal of the season on Wednesday evening, but Madonna defeated Lourdes 3-1 at Wildcat Stadium.

The Crusaders jumped in front 13 minutes into the contest as Morgan Stack dribbled by the Lourdes defense and scored from 15 yards out to put the visitors in front.

Each team managed just three shot attempts in the opening 45 minutes as Madonna carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Madonna (6-4-1, 3-1 WHAC) doubled its lead just 2:16 into the second half as Holly McManus scored far post from 25 yards out.  Rhiannon Holmes then made it 3-0 Crusaders with her goal at the 67-minute mark.

Just 54 seconds later, Cecily Hughes (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) sent a cross into the box that Mackenzie Fifer, the Madonna netminder was unable to punch away and Rincon got a foot on and buried in the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Crusaders would finish with a 10-7 shot advantage as Emmy Rodger (Romeo, Mich./Romeo H.S.) made three saves in net for the Gray Wolves.  Fifer had two stops for Madonna.

Lourdes (4-5-1, 1-3) takes to the road on Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Washington Township, Mich. to face Rochester (Mich.).  The kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Michigan Stars Sports Center.
