Gray Wolves Celebrate Homecoming with Victory over Olivet

Lourdes picked up its second consecutive victory to open the season on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves cruised past Olivet 86-48 on Homecoming weekend inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We didn't play a bad game, but we have to do a better job locking in on defense," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We gamble too much on defense and that has to improve."

Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales H.S.) poured in 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting and made five triples while Ethan Damerum (Cressage, England/Charnwood Riders) posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Lourdes shot 46.8% from the floor, including 42.1% (8-of-19) from three-point range and committed just six turnovers in the game.

A 23-7 run over eight minutes midway through the first half allowed the Gray Wolves to build a 31-12 lead on the way to a 40-16 advantage at halftime.  Lourdes would continue extending the lead throughout the second half, pushing it to as many as 41.

The Gray Wolves forced 18 turnovers and held a 47-36 edge on the glass, grabbing 14 offensive rebounds which led to 18 second chance points.

Lourdes finished with five players in double figures as Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 13 points while Nic Borojevich (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) added 12 more off the bench.  Shaunn Monroe (Charleston, W. Va./Fairborn [Ohio] H.S.) added 11 points, four assists, and three steals.

Drew Weber led Olivet, which played the game as an exhibition, with 13 points.

Lourdes (2-0) will return to the hardwood on Monday evening, traveling to Normal, Ill. to face NCAA Division I Illinois State.  The Gray Wolves will play the game as an exhibition while it will be a regular season contest for the Redbirds.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. inside CEFCU Arena.
