Lourdes Leads Wire-to-Wire in Win over Concordia

Lourdes scored the first 15 points on Wednesday evening and never looked back, defeating Concordia (Mich.) 84-59 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We shot the ball well from both two and three tonight," head coach Dennis Hopson said.  "The activity in our zone was great and the 41 rebounds we had really impressed me.  I still want us to share the ball more though as we overdribble at times."

The Gray Wolves needed just over four minutes to build the early lead.  Concordia responded though with 11 of the next 13 points to close within six.  After the lead grew back to 21, 25-13, midway through the half, the Cardinals went on another 12-3 spurt, pulling to within three, 32-29.  Lourdes scored the next 10 points though to rebuild the double figure lead and the advantage stayed at least 10 the rest of the game.

Lourdes led 47-34 at the break and used another 12-0 run early in the second half to push the lead to 22, 60-38.  Another nine-point outburst late in the second half allowed the Gray Wolves to pull away.

Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) and Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) each scored 15 points to lead the way for the Gray Wolves.  Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 14 points and Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) chipped in 13 as the Gray Wolves had four scorers in double figures for the 14th time this season.

Harris pulled down eight rebounds and Anderson had seven as the Gray Wolves finished with a 41-28 edge on the glass.  Lourdes shot 50% from the field, including 40% (12-of-30) from three-point range on the night.

Zackary Johnson and Jason Jergens led Concordia (8-15, 7-8 WHAC) with 10 points each.

Lourdes (17-6, 11-4) heads to Rochester Hills, Mich. on Saturday afternoon to face Rochester (Mich.) in a matchup of two teams tied for second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside Garth Pleasant Arena.
