Lourdes turned in its highest scoring output of the calendar year on Saturday afternoon but Rochester (Mich.) came away with a 93-78 victory inside Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester Hills, Mich.
"Rochester plays a game teams have to be disciplined and handle their tenacity," head coach
Tandy Bradford said afterwards. "We had possessions we did better, however we needed to mentally lock in to our own game plan from beginning to end and not allow them to set the pace. Too much of the game was paced by Rochester."
Lourdes led for the first five minutes before the Warriors tied the game at 11 with four minutes to play in the first stanza. Rochester closed the period on a 9-2 run to build a seven-point lead after 10 minutes. The lead grew to 12, 28-16, early in the second quarter before Lourdes made a run. The Gray Wolves closed to within five, 36-31, with 4:35 to play before halftime, only to see a 14-5 spurt by the hosts allow Rochester to take a 52-38 advantage into the locker room.
The Warriors pushed the lead to 18, 64-46, with six minutes to play in the third before the Gray Wolves scored nine consecutive points. Lourdes was able to pull within 11, 72-61, heading into the fourth. Rochester scored the first seven points of the final period to pull away for good as the Gray Wolves were never able to cut the deficit to single digits in the fourth.
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 21 points while
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) added 14 more.
