Lourdes Remains Unbeaten, Downing SCAD in Home Opener

Lourdes kept its perfect start to the season unblemished on Monday evening as the Gray Wolves opened the home portion of its schedule with a 10-7 victory over SCAD-Savannah at Wildcat Stadium.

"The guys played really hard tonight," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "They played well together.  It was an exciting game, and we look to continue to build from it."

Neither team would find the back of the net until Brock Meomartino (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland H.S.) scored with just 1:37 remaining in the opening quarter.  SCAD would answer just 11 seconds later to tie the game before Tomasz Simeunovic (Whitby, Ont./The Hill Academy) put Lourdes in front for good with a goal with just one second remaining on the clock.

The Gray Wolves would increase the lead to 6-1 by halftime as the defense pitched a shutout in the second quarter.  Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.), Ben Reidy (Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney H.S.) scored the first two goals before Darin Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Kingston College) scored his first collegiate tally to make it 5-1.  Meomartino added the final tally before intermission with just five seconds remaining.

SCAD (1-6) cut into the lead in the third quarter, scoring four of the six goals before pulling within two, 8-6, with a tally at the 7:15 mark of the fourth period.  Garrett Boersma (Norco, Calif./Norco H.S.) stopped the run with his second goal of the game and Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) added an insurance goal with 1:24 left to secure the win.

Lourdes outshot the Bees 29-27 for the night with Jack Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) making eight saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.  Meomartino and Ryan Shaffer (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick H.S.) led the team with six ground balls each.

Lourdes (4-0) closes out non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face Thomas More.  The opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at Republic Bank Field.
