Lourdes opened up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Sunday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Lawrence Tech 4-1 and 5-2 at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly, Mich.
 
"Both games were quality games," head coach Caitlin Blanchard said afterwards.  "We just need to get some timely hits and on the flip side of the ball get out of tough situations when the other team gets some offensive momentum.  We really need to figure out how to get the offense going.  We scored all of our runs today off of home runs and we are not a team that can live and die on the long ball.  It was awesome to see Brooke albert and Annalisse Palma barrel up some balls and hit those home runs, and we have some people starting to figure it out, but we need to get some consistency all through the lineup."
 
In the opener, Lawrence Tech took a 1-0 lead in the third and maintained the lead until the sixth.  Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) led off the inning with a home run to center, but that would be the only offense of the game for the Gray Wolves.  The Blue Devils plated three in the bottom of the inning to pull in front for good.
 
Lourdes managed just six hits against Lawrence Tech pitching in game one.  Berlynn Keller (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) worked 5.1 innings in the circle, yielding four runs on seven hits while striking out six.
 
In game two, Lawrence Tech (11-8, 2-0 WHAC) again plated a run in the bottom of the third to take the early lead.  The Gray Wolves responded in the fourth.  Maddy Bartos (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) walked with one out and Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) launched a two-run home run to left-center.
 
The Blue Devils retook the lead with three runs in the fifth and added one more in the sixth while keeping Lourdes off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
 
Again Lourdes had six hits in the night cap while Milena Applegate (Jerome, Mich./Lumen Christi H.S.) went 5.2 innings in the circle, allowing four earned runs and five hits while fanning two.
 
Lourdes (5-13, 0-2) concludes its road trip on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Adrian, Mich. to battle Siena Heights.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m. at Christensen Field.
