Lourdes picked up its fifth and sixth straight victories on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves swept Siena Heights 9-8 and 20-2 in a doubleheader at Mercy Field.
The Gray Wolves had to battle from behind in the opening game, falling behind 6-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Lourdes scored three times in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of a bases loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, and a hit batter to pull within one.
Lourdes tied the game in the fifth on a double by
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ont./Dunbarton H.S.), one of four hits the shortstop had in the game. Siena Heights retook the lead in the sixth with a pair or runs. The Gray Wolves pulled within one in the sixth and won the game with a pair of tallies in the seventh. Suraganan singled to tie the game and
Harrison Jackson's (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) sacrifice fly won the game.
Braden Zuber (Payne, Ohio/Wayne Trace H.S.) earned the win in relief for the Gray Wolves, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of work.
In game two, Lourdes took advantage of 12 walks and seven hit batters from Siena Heights (4-18, 1-9 WHAC) pitching to score 20 runs on just 10 hits. The Gray Wolves plated multiple runs in all six innings, including five in the third and four in both the fourth and sixth frames.
Suraganan drove in five runs while
Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont./Holy Trinity H.S.) had three RBI.
Avery Harper (Cardington, Ohio/Cardington-Lincoln H.S.) pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win, scattering four hits.
Lourdes (12-9, 8-2) heads to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a four-game weekend series against Concordia (Mich.). First pitch in game one of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Cardinal Field.
