Lourdes rallied late against Trinity Christian to force extra innings before winning 6-2 in nine innings on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a 2-1 setback against Keiser at the USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Fla.
Â
"In game one, they executed some of the little things like bunting and executing defensive plays better than we did, and that was the difference," head coach
Caitlin Blanchard said afterwards.  "In game two, our pitching and defense held up long enough until our offense could get some big hits late. Berlynn (Keller) pitched a great game to keep us in it and we had some clutch defensive plays and at bats that got us the victory."
Â
Trailing 1-0 heading into the seventh against Trinity Christian (4-4),
Olivia Hickman (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) delivered a one-out single. Pinch-runner
Madie Wagner (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) moved to third on
Megan Richardson's (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) two-out single before
Maddie Darrah (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) tied the game with a pinch-hit single.
Â
In the eighth, with the international tie-breaker in effect,
Mallori Bradley (Zanesville, Ohio/Maysville H.S.) scampered home on a passed ball to give the Gray Wolves a 2-1 lead, only to see the Trolls tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
Â
In the ninth,
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) put Lourdes in front 4-2 with a two-run single to right before scoring herself on an error.Â
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) pushed the lead to four with her run-scoring single.
Â
Berlynn Keller (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) shut the Trolls down in order in the bottom of the ninth to finish off her complete game win (2-1). She struck out three and scattered just four hits while allowing one earned run.
Â
In the opener against Keiser (7-7), the Seahawks scored a pair of runs in the first inning before
Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) settled in. She went the distance, allowing just the two runs on 10 hits while striking out four and did not walk a batter.
Â
Lourdes tried to rally in the sixth. Hickman led off with a single and pinch-runner
Maddy Bartos (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) later scored on a single by Richardson for the Gray Wolves' lone run of the game.
Â
