Lourdes Falls in Triple-Overtime to Madonna

Lourdes scored the final three goals of regulation to force overtime on Saturday, but Madonna scored with 13 seconds remaining in the third extra period to defeat the Gray Wolves 13-12 at Wildcat Stadium.

Ben Reidy (Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney H.S.) started the comeback with his fifth goal of the game with 5:15 to play to pull Lourdes within two, 12-10.  Brock Meomartino (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland H.S.) followed to make it a one-goal game less than 90 seconds later while Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) tied the game with 2:21 to play.

Neither team would score in the first two overtimes, with Gray Wolf netminder Jack Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) turning away four shots during the two frames.  Vince Floro of Madonna (6-4, 2-1 WHAC) picked up a loose ball and scored the game-winner with just 13 ticks left on the clock in the third overtime.

The Crusaders built a 4-1 lead after one quarter and led 7-3 at the break.  Lourdes scored four times in the third but was only able to close to within 10-7 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Johnson scored four times while Meomartino had the other three goals for the Gray Wolves.  Madonna outshot Lourdes 50-47 for the night with Bichsel making 19 total saves.

Reidy and Jack Durham (Zeeland, Mich./East H.S.) each had six ground balls for Lourdes while Collin Brutlag (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) caused four turnovers.

Lourdes (6-2, 1-2) will have a week off before returning to action next Saturday as the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech.  The opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. at Warrior Athletic Field.
