No. 4 Concordia Stymies Lourdes Offense

Facing a ranked opponent for the second consecutive game, Lourdes offense was unable to get on track on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves fell 14-4 to fourth-ranked Concordia (Mich.) at Wildcat Stadium.

The Cardinals won the opening faceoff and scored just seven seconds into the game and built a 2-0 lead before the Gray Wolves tied the contest.  Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard before Darin Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Kingston College) tied the contest with his goal with 4:55 to play in the opening quarter.

Concordia (11-1, 6-0 WHAC) retook the lead just 25 seconds later and added three second quarter goals, the last coming with just 11 seconds before the horn, to build a 6-2 advantage at halftime.

The Cardinals scored the first two goals of the third before Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) found the back of the cage and Ryan Shaffer (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick H.S.) added a tally of his own late in the third period as the Gray Wolves pulled within 9-4 heading to the final 15 minutes.

The visitors would score all five of the fourth quarter tallies though to secure the win.

Concordia outshot Lourdes 47-20 for the game with Jack Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) making 14 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.  Johnson had a team-high four ground balls while Jack Durham (Zeeland, Mich./East H.S.) caused three turnovers.

Cooper Regimbal led Concordia with four goals while Sam Bowling made 12 saves in the cage.

Lourdes (6-4, 1-4) begins its final road trip of the regular season on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Upland, Ind. to battle Taylor.  The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Wheeler Field.
