A 10-run fifth inning in game two helped Lourdes gain a doubleheader split with Siena Heights on Thursday at Christensen Field in Adrian, Mich. The Saints won the opener 6-5 before the Gray Wolves captured game two 12-3.
Game two was scoreless until the fourth when
Ella Leonard (Lorain, Ohio/Midview H.S.) and
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) both delivered RBI singles to put the Gray Wolves in front 2-0.
Siena Heights (8-23, 4-8 WHAC) answered with three runs of its own to pull in front before Lourdes erupted for 10 runs in the fifth to end the game. The Gray Wolves took advantage of three Saints errors, as all 10 tallies were unearned.
Olivia Hickman (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) had a run-scoring single while Cantrell had a RBI double.
Abigail Sparks (Dundee, Mich./Summerfield H.S.) also had a two-run hit in the inning. The Saints also walked in a pair of runs and hit a batter with the bases loaded as part of the uprising.
Cantrell,
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.), and
Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) each had two hits in the nightcap as part of a 12-hit attack.
Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) earned the win in the circle, allowing the three runs on three hits while striking out five.
Lourdes struck first in the opener as well as
Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) singled home the game's first run in the first inning. The Saints responded with a pair in the second before the Gray Wolves tied the game with a groundout in the top of the fourth.
Siena Heights scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead before the Gray Wolves attempted a late rally. A Saints error in the fifth plated one run before Lourdes added two more in the seventh on an
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) single. The Gray Wolves would strand the tying runner.
Albert and Leonard each had two hits in the nightcap.
Lourdes (9-21, 4-10) returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.). First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Gray Wolf Field with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the game.
