Lourdes saw its 2023 season come to an end on Saturday morning as the Gray Wolves dropped an 18-16 decision to Bethel (Ind.) on Senior Day at Wildcat Stadium.
Prior to the game, Lourdes honored its lone senior,
Kylie Turner (Ridgeway, Ohio/Ridgemont H.S.).
This was a tough loss to close our season but I am so proud of what we accomplished all season," head coach
Sierra Wagoner said afterwards. "The team is very young, and I cannot wait to see all of the players and the team grow in the years to come. Our senior,
Kylie Turner, will be missed and I loved having the privilege of coaching her over the last three years."
Bethel took an early 5-2 lead before
Amelia McCourt's (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills H.S.) scored with five seconds remaining in the opening quarter to start a 6-0 Lourdes spurt. The Pilots responded with four goals of their own before Turner found the back of the cage in her collegiate finale. The two sides entered halftime tied at 10.
The schools traded goals in the third quarter, with neither team leading by more than one, and entered the fourth period tied 14-14. Bethel (7-8, 4-5 WHAC) scored the first three goals of the final frame before
Joelle Rawski (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) stopped the run. Rawski's eighth goal of the game pulled the Gray Wolves to within two with 2:00 to play, but Lourdes would not get any closer.
Jordin Rawski (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) scored three times in the game while McCourt and
Sarah Przyojski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) each had two goals for Lourdes (4-8, 2-7). Isabell Gerbrand led Bethel with seven goals while Alyssa Lundy added six more.
Lourdes outshot Bethel 39-34 for the game with
Maddie Wadesisi (Cleveland, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) making 10 saves for the Gray Wolves. Samantha Swope made 15 stops for the Pilots.
Skylar Cornelio (Braidwood, Ill./Providence Catholic H.S.) and
Jordin Rawski each had three ground balls while Rawski also caused three turnovers.
