Lourdes wrapped up its 2023 season on Sunday afternoon, celebrating 18 seniors before Madonna won both games of a doubleheader from the Gray Wolves, 3-2 and 12-10, at Mercy Field.
Madonna started quick in the opener, hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. After the Crusaders added a third run in the third, Lourdes tried to battle back.
Nick DiGennero (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola H.S.) singled with one out in the fifth and scored on a triple by
Andrew Arntson (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.).
Ryan Jagodzinski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Rossford H.S.) followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game.
The Gray Wolves were unable to complete the comeback down the stretch though, managing just five hits in game one of the doubleheader.
The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the top of the first of game two as well, both of which were unearned.
Lourdes batted around in its half of the first though, scoring five times to take the lead.

Thad Niziolek (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa H.S.) delivered a two-run double to make it 5-2 Gray Wolves.
Madonna (30-15, 24-6 WHAC) plated single runs in the third and fifth innings before Haugh launched a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead back to two, 6-4.
The Crusaders hit three seventh inning homers to pull in front before batting around in the ninth, scoring five more runs that proved to be insurance tallies.
The Gray Wolves tried to rally in the ninth, scoring four times in the inning.
Michael Strzelewicz (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary's Catholic Central H.S.) plated a run with a single before Jackson followed with a two-RBI hit. Lourdes (20-26, 15-17) brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but was unable to pull even.
