After weather postponed the doubleheader a day, Lourdes returned to the diamond on Thursday afternoon, falling in a pair of contests to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 9-1 and 4-2 at WSU Softball Stadium in Detroit, Mich.
Â
Trailing 2-0 heading into the fourth of game two,
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) reached on a lead-off error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Mallori Bradley (Zanesville, Ohio/Maysville H.S.).Â
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) followed with a run-scoring single to put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard.
Â
Michigan-Dearborn answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth though, and ended the game with three more in the fifth. The Wolverines took advantage of four Lourdes errors, which led to eight of the nine runs being unearned.
Â
Lourdes trailed 1-0 into the fifth of game two when Wallace led off the inning with a home run to tie the game. Cantrell followed with a double, one of two she had as part of her three-hit game.Â
Madie Wagner (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) pinch ran for Cantrell and scored on a single by
Maddie Bartos (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) to put the Gray Wolves in front. Bartos had two hits in the nightcap.
Â
The lead carried into the bottom of the sixth when the Gray Wolves committed three errors, leading to three Wolverine runs, allowing Michigan-Dearborn (14-10, 4-3 WHAC) to rally for the win.
Â
