Lourdes wrapped up its three-match homestand on Saturday afternoon, falling 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 to Aquinas inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Gray Wolves were held to just .053 hitting on the afternoon while the Saints swung at a .321 clip and doubled the Lourdes kill total 48-24 for the match.
The opening set was close throughout. Tied at 21, Aquinas scored three straight points before the Gray Wolves answered with two of their own but could not pull even at the end. The Saints raced out to a 7-1 lead in the second before Lourdes battled back to within three, 16-13. Lourdes would not get any closer though, falling behind two sets to none.
Aquinas (13-3, 3-0 WHAC) led 11-7 in the third set before Lourdes scored six straight points behind the serve of
Macey Zinser (Bucyrus, Ohio/Wynford H.S.), who served up six straight points to put the Gray Wolves in front 13-7. The Saints answered with a 7-0 run of their own though to put the match out of reach.
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) led Lourdes with eight kills while
Arleena Willer (Perrysburg, Ohio/Toledo Christian H.S.) tallied 11 digs.
Abbi Perkins led all players with 15 kills and hit .370 for Aquinas while Jordyn Carlyle picked up 21 digs.
Lourdes (1-8, 1-3) takes to the road on Wednesday evening to battle nationally ranked Indiana Tech. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
