Lourdes registered its first road victory of the season, and second shutout overall, on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves defeated Holy Cross (Ind.) 3-0 at Saints Field in Notre Dame, Ind.
The Gray Wolves used a set piece to start the scoring just 20:28 into the match.
Keira Boskovich (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley H.S.) sent a free kick into the box where
Karlie Heilman (Warren, Ohio/Harding H.S.) got her head on the ball and sent it far post. The tally was the second of Heilman's career, both of which have been match-winners.
Lourdes maintained the 1-0 lead into intermission, limiting the Saints to just two total shot attempts, neither of which was on goal, in the opening 45 minutes.
Kayla Dillinger (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney H.S.) doubled the Lourdes advantage 9:55 into the second half, taking advantage of a deflection in the goal box and firing the ball past netminder Payton Ladson for her team-leading second goal of the season. Dillinger's seventh career goal moves her into a tie for eighth place on the school's career list.
Boskovich, who tallied her team-leading third assist of the season on the Gray Wolves' first goal, found the back of the net herself with 28:00 to play. She took a long cross from the right side off the foot of
Chloe Wittbrodt (Bay City, Mich./Western H.S.) and converted for her first goal of the season while taking the team lead with five points overall. For the freshman Wittbrodt, it was her first collegiate helper.
Emmy Rodger (Romeo, Mich./Romeo H.S.) made seven saves in the second half to preserve her first shutout of the season and 15
th of her career. Ladson made five stops in net for Holy Cross (2-3).
Lourdes finished the match with a 13-11 overall shot advantage with both teams having a pair of corner kick opportunities.
Lourdes (2-1) will have a week off before concluding its three-match road trip next Wednesday with a trip to Coraopolis, Pa. to face Point Park. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Montour Junction Sports Complex.
