Siena Heights scored the game's first 12 points on Wednesday evening on the way to a 71-53 victory over Lourdes inside SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting while
Tamyah Worthy (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) added 10 points, scoring in double figures for the first time in her collegiate career.
The Saints started quickly, holding Lourdes scoreless for nearly seven minutes while building a 12-0 lead. When the Gray Wolves broke through on the scoreboard, they went on an 11-4 run to pull within five late in the opening stanza. Siena Heights responded to open the second, and slowly increased its lead, building a 36-22 advantage at the break.
Siena Heights used a 16-3 run over the final 7:35 of the third period to pull away, pushing the lead to 27, 56-29, before Lourdes made a fourth quarter run. The Gray Wolves scored 11 straight points midway through the final stanza to close within 18, which would be the eventual final margin.
Olivia DeLong and Jakarri Alven led Siena Heights (17-2, 12-1 WHAC) with 12 points each as five Saints finished in double figures.
Halle Barnett (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Gray Wolves on the night.
Lourdes (6-12, 4-9) returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Aquinas. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on Senior Day inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
