Pedroza Surpasses 1,000 Career Points Wednesday at Concordia

Lourdes University's Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) became the third player in program history to reach 1,000 career points on Wednesday evening but Concordia (Mich.) came away with a 68-56 victory over the Gray Wolves inside Cardinal Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Pedroza's lay-in with 14 seconds left in the third quarter, her fifth and sixth points of the game, pushed her over the century mark for her career.

Lourdes never led in the game as the Cardinals scored the game's first 10 points, holding the Gray Wolves scoreless for the first 5:30 of the game.  After falling behind 16-4, Lourdes scored the final six points of the opening period and four of the first five points of the second quarter to battle back to within three.

Concordia pushed the lead back to 10, only for the Gray Wolves responded with a 10-2 run of their own to pull within two, 26-24, with just over two minutes to play before halftime.  The Cardinals then extended their lead back to six, 32-26, at the break.

The hosts lead grew to 13 late in the third before Lourdes cut the advantage to nine at the end of the third on Pedroza's historic basket.

The Gray Wolves were able to cut their deficit to three, 52-49, on a Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) basket with just over four minutes to play.  Lourdes was still within four, 55-51, at the 2:30 mark but Concordia finished the game making 9-of-12 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.

Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 points while Stringfellow added 16 more.  Shae Pedroza finished the game with 12 points.  The Gray Wolves shot just 29.7% from the floor and were just 1-of-14 (7.1%) from three-point range on the night.

Taylor Leatherman led Concordia (15-6, 13-2 WHAC) with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Abby Long added 17 points.

Lourdes (7-13, 5-10) will return home to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host the University of Northwestern Ohio.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
