GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Aquinas College on Saturday, marking just their third loss of the season.
The road setback dropped the Gray Wolves to 6-3 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play and 9-3-1 overall for the 2024 season.
For much of the game, the Gray Wolves kept the Saints under control with strong defense and a solid performance from goalkeeper Emmy Roger. Roger faced nine shots and made six important saves, keeping the match scoreless for almost an hour.
However, the Saints broke through in the 60th minute when Aquinas struck first, opening the scoring and putting Lourdes on the back foot. Just 15 seconds later, Aquinas found the back of the net again, scoring an incredibly quick second goal that stunned the Gray Wolves and shifted the momentum dramatically.
Despite their best efforts, Lourdes couldn't bounce back from the fast-paced goals. Aquinas sealed the win in the 84th minute with a third goal, finishing the game 3-0.
The Gray Wolves' defense held strong for much of the game, but Aquinas' late flurry ultimately proved too much to overcome.
