Balanced Attack Lifts Lourdes Past Cornerstone

Lourdes had four players finish in double figures and two more score nine points each on Wednesday evening as Gray Wolves led wire-to-wire in a 73-55 victory over Cornerstone on Girls and Women in Sports Night inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"That is the one we we've been hunting," head coach Tandy Bradford said after the win.  "Our collective team effort in our focus and execution on both ends of the floor is what we've been looking for.  I'm very happy for our program."

The Gray Wolves started fast, scoring the game's first nine points while holding the Golden Eagles scoreless for nearly five minutes.  Lourdes built a 16-2 lead late in the opening quarter as the Gray Wolves held Cornerstone to just 2-of-16 shooting from the floor in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Leading by 10 after one, Cornerstone tried to cut into the lead in the second period, closing to within four, 20-16 before the Gray Wolves pushed the lead back to 11.  The Golden Eagles again got to within five late in the half before Lourdes took a 33-27 lead into the locker room.

Cornerstone cut the Gray Wolf advantage to three, 35-32, early in the third quarter before Lourdes scored the next nine points to rebuild a 12-point edge.  The Golden Eagles responded with a 10-0 run of their own to pull within two late in the quarter.

With the Gray Wolves holding a 48-46 lead a minute into the fourth, Lourdes went on a 15-0 spurt over the next five minutes to put the game away and eventually led by as many as 21 points down the stretch.

Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 13 points while Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) added 12 more.  Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) chipped in11 points while Tamyah Worthy (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) tallied a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Nakiya Sigman (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) and Nadeen Jemaa (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) each added nine points.
