Lourdes began its 12-game spring trip in Florida on Saturday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Webber International 4-1 and 3-2 at Nancy Nichols Field in Babson Park, Fla.
In the opener, Jenna Chaudoin held Lourdes to just three hits in a complete game win for the Warriors. Webber International jumped in front with two runs in the third and added another in the fifth before the Gray Wolves finally broke through.
In the top of the sixth,
Lindsey McGann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) led off the inning with her first collegiate home run to put Lourdes on the scoreboard. That would be the lone offense for the Gray Wolves though as the Warriors added another insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
Game two was a pitcher's dual until the bottom of the fifth when Webber International (6-9) broke through with the game's first run. Lourdes answered in the sixth, taking the lead.
Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) doubled home
Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) to tie the game and
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) followed with a two-bagger of her own to give Lourdes a 2-1 lead.
The Gray Wolves retired the first two batters in the seventh before back-to-back singles and walk loaded the bases. Haley Saylor delivered a pinch-hit two-run single to win the game for Webber International.
Palma had two of Lourdes' four hits in game two as the Gray Wolves managed just seven total hits on the day.
Lourdes (5-5) will now head to USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Fla. for the remainder of the trip beginning on Monday. The Gray Wolves will face Trinity Christian at 12:15 p.m. and Ave Maria at 4:45 p.m.
