Lourdes used a seven-run sixth inning in game one and a seven-run third inning in game two on Friday to sweep a doubleheader from Cornerstone 7-2 and 14-2 at Mercy Field.
Â
Cornerstone took the early lead in the opener, scoring a pair of runs on back-to-back two-out singles in the second inning. The game would stay 2-0 Golden Eagles until the sixth as
Wyatt Smith (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) worked six innings while scattering just six hits on the way to the win for Lourdes.
Â
After getting just two hits in the first five innings, Lourdes sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning to rally from behind.Â
Jase Kennedy (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk to put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard before a fielder's choice tied the game.Â
A.J. Brinson (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) put Lourdes in front with a two-run double.
Â
Alex Dupree (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) tacked on a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 5-0 before
Caleb Edwards-Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) added a RBI single and
Nick DiGennaro (Oakville, Ont./St. Ignatius of Loyola) delivered a two-run double.
Â
Caleb Loboschefski (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) went the distance in game two, coming one out shy of a shutout. He allowed just six hits while striking out four and walking just one in the win.
Â
Lourdes sent 11 batters to the plate in the third, scoring seven runs to take the lead. DiGennero singled home the game's first run while Kennedy added a RBI double. Brinson, who went 3-for-3 in game two, singled home two and
Joel Suraganan (Pickerington, Ohio/Dunbarton H.S.) plated another run with a base hit.Â
Â
Four more runs crossed the plate in the fourth as the Gray Wolves again batted around.Â
Skylar Mays (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) and Brinson each had RBI hits in the frame.Â
Gray Harmer (Delta, B.C./St. Thomas More Collegiate H.S.) each had run-scoring doubles in the fifth as Lourdes added three more tallies.
Â
A two-out error in the top of the seventh allowed Cornerstone to score its two runs, but the Gray Wolves got the final out of the inning to complete the run-rule game.
Â
Lourdes (6-10, 5-1 WHAC) and Cornerstone (5-18, 0-6) will conclude their four-game weekend series on Saturday afternoon with another doubleheader. The first pitch in game one has been moved to 2 p.m. at Mercy Field.
