Lourdes Falls Twice Tuesday in Florida

Lourdes returned to the diamond for a pair of games on Tuesday at USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne Fla., falling 5-1 to 14th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan before dropping a 5-4 decision at Fort Lauderdale.

In the opener, the Wildcats jumped in front quickly, scoring a run in the first before adding three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.  Following an inside-the-park home run in the fifth by Indiana Wesleyan (7-1), Lourdes finally broke through in the sixth.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) delivered a RBI hit to score Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.).  The Gray Wolves stranded runners on second and third to end the threat.

Lourdes managed just four hits in the opening.  In the circle, Taylor Leggins (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) tossed 4.2 innings of relief, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out two.

Fort Lauderdale (12-12) scored early in the second game as well, plating one in the first and four in the second to build a 5-0 lead.

The Gray Wolves fought back with a pair of runs in the second as Jaylen Jackson (Newark, Ohio/Newark H.S.) hit a two-run home run, scoring Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.).

Albert drove home a run in the third with a ground out and Olivia Hickman (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) plated another run to pull the Gray Wolves within one.

Lourdes was not able to complete the comeback though, leaving eight runners on base in the game, including four in scoring position.

The Gray Wolves had 12 hits against the Eagles with Palma, Albert, Jackson, and Rachel Mease (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville H.S.) tallying two each.

Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, yielding just one hit while fanning four.

Lourdes (6-8) will return to the diamond on Thursday as the Gray Wolves face Marian at 4:45 p.m. and Trinity Christian at 7 p.m.
