Lourdes opened Thursday facing its second ranked opponent of the week on Thursday, falling to 10
th-ranked Marian 5-0 before dropping a 4-2 decision to Grace at USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Fla.
Â
In the opener against Marian (7-0), the Knights scored four runs in the opening inning before adding a solo tally in the fifth.Â
Taylor Leggins (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) allowed just two hits after the opening inning in the circle for the Gray Wolves.
Â
A pair of Knight pitchers limited Lourdes to just one hit, a one-out single by
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) in the sixth inning.
Â
In game two, Grace (3-3) broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead on just one hit in the inning.
Â
Lourdes plated one in the fifth as
Rachel Mease (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville H.S.) scored on an error. The Gray Wolves added another run in the seventh as
Emily Robinson (Riverview, Mich./Riverview H.S.) singled home pinch-runner
Robyn Ryan (Norton, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.). Lourdes stranded the bases loaded in the seventh though, something the Gray Wolves also did in the second, fifth, and sixth innings.
Â
Robinson went 3-for-3 with a walk in the game while
Lindsey McGann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights H.S.) and
Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) each had two hits.
Â
"We squandered way too many opportunities," head coach
Caitlin Blanchard said afterwards. "Leaving 15 runners on base, including the bases loaded four times, tells the story of the game."
Â
Lourdes (6-10) returns to USSSA Space Coast on Friday. The Gray Wolves face Dakota Wesleyan at 4:45 p.m. and Trinity Christian at 7 p.m.
